I’m alive

Hi

I’m alive but a major setback has put me out of the fly tying game for the foreseeable future

Mice destroyed approx 3.5k of materials on me , I’m still on the sick after the harrowing cancer treatment so I simply cannot afford to replace the materials, besides  that I refuse to pay the ridiculous prices that are being charged for saddles because of the latest hairdressing fad

I’ll leave the website up for anyone wanting to use the patterns

Thankyou all for your support during my fly tying career

Irish International Fly Fair this weekend

Posted in Musings | Leave a comment

Actually got out fishing

Launched the kayak from Portmuck yesterday evening

I launched at low water and the fishings always slow to start  so tied on a size 6 Tungsten beaded chartreuse bugbeel and had  a surprising amount of small pollock

I had one decent one which bend the 9 weight double.  I was expecting  10lber to surface ..but no

Caught my first fish on a kinky muddler

Great to get out again

Long time no post

Well the reason is .. I had to tie a few big orders , so got a bit fed up tying.  they were all flies i’ve posted before so no point in taking any pictures

On Monday I went for a series of scans , have to wait now until the 6th July to find out if the treatment has worked . I think it has feeling a hell of a lot better but still suffer from fatigue

The Irish International Fly FDair is next weekend so I have to start  tying for it, there’s mnot a great market for saltwater flies atthe show so I mainly tie up a load of sea trout stuff

Bugbeels and inverted Bugbeels and a few shrimp patterns

While I had the Olive , Lavender . yellow and white capes to hand I threw this together as a bunker style fly , big flat profile and mostly all hackle construction . making it very light and easy to cast

I’ve been askedto do a SBS for the super hair baitfish pattern in the post below .. I will try and get it done this week

tight lines

Wikileaks and the Ball Pein Sandeel

Jim “Assange ” Hendricks :D   has leaked some highly confidential  emails between us …

The normal sort of thing that goes on

He’s omitted the last one which will take a bit of working out

subject Houston … we have a problem

Morning …

Pink is tied in without the battered head look

The angle of burrow is now satisfactory ,, however this now creates another problem .. the hook gape is affected
Not happy about this … I think i’ll have to tie in the top olive wing twice … the bulk to go on the outside of the bend and then a thin cosmetic layer on the inside of the hook bend to hide the hook a bit

This then adds another problem of flash ,, the white underwing is wrapped with flash to give it that holographic sandeel look .. so if i have to tie two materials on the outside of the bend .. the flash wont tie in

But now i’m going fishing for a few hours because the wind has dropped and the suns shining  ..  I’ll have another go when i return .. Ill shoot some video of the attempts so far while i’m on the water

Andy

…………………………………………………………………………………………………….

I blanked , the water was like pea soup so no video either

Now I’m going to the hospital  for a minor operation ….  and I  still haven’t solved the flash problem  :D

Mañana
